In a study involving 91 obese subjects, grapefruit consumption was found to be associated with a reduction in weight.  Moreover, among obese subjects.  2-hour post -glucose insulin levels were significantly reduced and insulin resistance was  improved among subjects consuming half a grapefruit before each meal, as compared with a placebo.  So the grapefruit diet wasn’t so crazy after all!  This study shows that consuming fresh grapefruit or juice before a meal {fruit or juice} before a meal significantly reduced weight by approximately 3.5 pounds in 12 weeks.  However, if you are prescription medication check with your physician about consuming grapefruit.
